Your Body Knows the Way: Finding Wisdom in Winter's Dark

Last week, we explored how nature teaches us about grief and transformation through its seasonal wisdom. Today, we're turning inward to discover another profound teacher: our own bodies.

Think of how a tree responds to winter. It doesn't just change its leaves – everything shifts. Its sap slows, its energy draws inward, its very cells adapt to honour the season it's in. Our bodies hold this same ancient wisdom when navigating loss and change.

The Language of the Body

When grief arrives, it speaks first through our bodies:

  • The heaviness in our chest

  • The tightness in our throat

  • The way our shoulders curl inward

  • The fatigue that seeps into our bones

  • The changing rhythms of sleep and hunger

These aren't signs something is wrong – they're evidence that our bodies know exactly how to process profound change. Just as the earth needs winter's rest to prepare for spring's renewal, our bodies create space for transformation in their own wise way.
